Visa's hard, exit bans are scary, there may be a war on the horizon. But physical visits can bring you more value than any second-hand information, including that from myself.
i love this article- it’s so true! even as someone who is less interested in “business” and more in people-to-people connection or just understanding the world, actually visiting China radically changed how i thought about it from just reading and talking to people. i also agree that visiting can be difficult or stressful… and would add that having local friends make a huge difference for both practical purposes (WeChat apps, language skills) and to see things outside a curated tourist experience.
Many fashion consumers here believe it's not cool any more/过气, but China has such diverse demographics, it's important not to be biased by the loudest group of people or one's own demographic.
