This week, I have been engrossed by a non-fiction book from Ding Jie, a writer and a secretary of commission for discipline inspection of an unnamed, state-affiliated company. He has amazing access to jailed corrupted officials.

Published in 2017, the book, directly translated as Further Inquiry, includes 'as told by' stories from eight former high-ranking officials. It covers how they started to slip into corruption, the influence of business magnates around them, and their tumultuous tenure. It's interesting to see how their views on gender roles, along with traditional Chinese connections, or guanxi, played into their eventual corruption.
